Spring water is a popular choice as a water source. The water is cooler in temperature and crisp  with a clean, mineral taste. But is spring water filtered? While it isn’t filtered to the extent of a home filtration system, there are steps you can take to still enjoy fresh spring water.

Our bodies run on water, and simply cannot live without it. With the recommended daily intake of 64 ounces of water, make sure that the water you’re drinking is both delicious and clean of chemicals and contaminants. With so much water rushing through our bodies, it is so important to equip it with healthy water that will go further than just hydrating your body, but nourishing your body as well. There are minerals packed in, which is very healthy for your body.

What is Spring Water?

This may be painstakingly obvious, but spring water comes from a spring. This is a water resource that forms when the side of a hill, bottom of the valley, or an excavation joins a flowing body of groundwater.

The spring happens when an aquifer (the underground layer of rock that holds onto groundwater) fills to a point that overflows onto the land surface. After that, it becomes a spring water source! The spring can range in sizes from seeps  that only hold onto rain, or large pools of water that flow hundreds to millions of gallons of water a day.

Is Spring Water Always Clear?

Not always. The water color could be rust or tea colored. This all depends on the location of the spring. If the water is that color, it’s because it flows through naturally occurring minerals found in volcanic rock.

Can I Drink Out Of The Spring?

When it comes to the quality of spring water, you should look towards the quality of water in the local groundwater system. If the groundwater is dirty, the spring water will be dirty as well. However, the water quality can greatly vary based on the type of rock that the water is flowing through. There are varying amounts of minerals that water can dissolve, so you should always know the water source.

The water could look clean, crisp and feel cold, but you should still exercise caution before filling your bottle and taking a big swig. It’s a great idea to invest in a filtered water bottle. This bottle can be lifesaving if you’re on the go or on a hike. Here is our list of the best filtered water bottles for your everyday use. With one of those bottles, you’re free to fill it with spring water and enjoy the cold, crisp taste and get those great minerals.

Bottled Spring Water

Bottled spring water is natural and untouched and unprocessed. They collect and bottle water at the source.  The naturally occurring minerals are still in the water for taste. The water, although natural, is still required to go through standards that are set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The FDA and EPA are looking for a few different safety measures for the water. Spring water goes through limited distillation, since the benefit to spring water is the naturally occurring minerals that are in the water. In order for spring water to successfully be sold as bottled water, the water needs to filter out the sediment.

When it comes down to drinking spring water; the choice is all in your personal preference. Some people love the taste of minerals, while others prefer a more refined taste that they can get from purified or filtered water.
