Hidden home security cameras can be a great accessory to add to your home! On the flip side, it could be doing more harm than good without realizing it. There are spots where having a hidden camera can be beneficial to your daily life, and other spots where it loses its value and could make attempted theft more likely.

Where to Hide Hidden Home Security Cameras

While the possibilities seem to be endless as far as where to store your hidden security camera, these locations seem to be the most popular among users.

  • Stuffed Animals
  • Mirrors
  • Lamps
  • Plants
  • Light Switch

Benefits of Hidden Camera

There are definite benefits to owning hidden cameras in your house. For instance, if you have a nanny or a babysitter and you’d like to make sure that your children are being properly protected and cared for. This could also be beneficial if you have a pet sitter while on vacation. This way, you can know when they are coming and going and that your pet is safe.

Another reason to have a hidden security camera is if you are in the process of trying to sell your home. If you are nervous about strangers in your home, install a hidden camera to ensure that your belongings are safe. This can also be an indicator of how people are perceiving your home if you have issues trying to sell it.

If you’re doing any home renovations or will have crews working on your home, having hidden home security cameras is a great tool. With the camera, you can track progress or make sure that your property isn’t damaged. This can be used as evidence if someone from the crew steals or damages something, or if they aren’t doing their job at all.

Where to Place Hidden Home Security Cameras

Young Children’s Bedrooms

“Nanny Cams” have been popular for years, but a hidden camera makes it different. Instead of a large, bulky camera posted at the crib, you can disguise it within a stuffed animal and stored high enough to give full visibility of the child’s room.

Family Room

Another great location is to put it in your family room. This tends to be a highly trafficked area in your home. This location gives you an opportunity to survey the room, while also having access points like windows to be visible as well.

Kitchen

Did you leave your oven on? Or forget to blow out your candle? Or just want to see if your children remember to thaw the chicken like you asked? Having a hidden camera in your kitchen can help you check on your kitchen without having another bulky appliance on your countertops. Easily disguise it in a light switch or lamp.

Bedroom

If you have hired a caretaker for a sick family member, you can hide a security camera to make sure that they are getting the best care possible. This is helpful if the family member gets out of bed, falls, and is unable to help themselves get up.

Where You Shouldn’t Have Hidden Cameras

While there are great options for hiding a camera, there are some instances where it isn’t in your best interest to hide a camera.

Outside Your Home

You should not have a hidden camera outside of your home! This is because it does not deter criminals away from entering. If your camera is visible outside, chances are, thieves aren’t going to be as interested. But, if your camera is hidden, they are under the impression that your home is not monitored through cameras and could attempt entry.

Front Entry Way by Door

This is the same thought process as the aforementioned section on outdoor cameras. If a robber looks into your home at the front entry point and doesn’t see a camera, they could proceed with attempting to break and enter. To combat this, install a visible camera to avoid any criminal activity. There are plenty of options with home security cameras or doorbell cameras, instead.

Low Enough Where Children Can Reach

If you’ve disguised your camera inside of a toy, it’s fair game to kids if it’s left low enough to the ground. Children are naturally curious, without thinking about whether something is a piece of breakable technology. Instead, keep the camera up high enough where it can record safely, without a child attempting to use it as a toy.

In a Private Area

This specifically pertains to hidden security cameras that could be used if you own an AirBnB. To make sure you don’t get into any legal trouble, don’t place security cameras in rooms considered private. The reason for this is that those are locations where someone could be changing. Make sure to read up on your state’s home security laws, so you don’t end up in any legal trouble.
